ANDRES - Alice Doreen passed away October 24, 2020 with her children by her side. Alice was born on October 30, 1933 in Herbert, Saskatchewan. She grew up in Herbert graduating from the Herbert High School in 1952. Following high school she worked for Telephones in Swift Current and then in Regina. In those early years she lived with her lifelong best friend Mary with one of their first apartments being in the old Christie Grant Block on Central Avenue. She would eventually return to Swift Current and married John Andres on June 1, 1963. Together they built a house on Jubilee Drive where they raised their family and lived for 50 years until John passed away in 2014. After raising their children, she returned to work starting first at White Cross Drugs which later became Bi-Rite Drugs, then at May and Eleanor’s Ladies Wear and Wendy’s Ladies Wear. For many years, Alice also volunteered at the First United Church assisting with funerals and other functions. She loved to go for walks with her friend Shirl and reminisce about the people who used to live in the houses along their route. Alice also used to love to walk through cemeteries and look for connections to people she knew. She loved meeting and talking to people and would regularly go downtown or to the mall to see who she could run into. Alice was an avid reader, enjoyed crosswords, nurturing her house plants and loved to bake. While many of the recipes were drawn from her own mother’s recipes, her baking had its own personal, unique touch. Her recipes were truly the best when it came to things like homemade buns and jam-jam cookies. Alice appreciated the simple things in life like family, friends, uniquely patterned or designed dishes, plants and flowers. Alice was blessed with good health for much of her life often suggesting she was "batting a thousand" however following Johns passing in January 2014 she moved into the Bentley for three years and eventually into Cypress House. She was a very resilient individual who adapted to these changes with grace and made the best of each situation. She appreciated visits and phone calls from family and friends, and loved to be able to get out and go for a walk, a drive, go for ice cream or go to the casino for supper and take a chance on winning a buck or two. She had the uncanny ability to play all night on twenty bucks and still come out ahead. Long having been known for having a sweet tooth and love of chocolate, she also loved sharing in a little drink of rum or glass of wine before bed. She is survived by her children Steven and Karen and sister Dianne (Gary) Fehr and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents Abram and Katherine Buhr, sister Joan (Al) Firus and brother Jerry Buhr and more recently by her husband John Andres. The family would like to thank Dr. Gould and Dr. Wasko for the care they provided over the last few years. Special thanks to Wendy Brown for brightening Alice's world every week by doing her hair but mostly for her friendship. Due to pandemic precautions, there will be no service.
