Reuben Ackerman Obituary

Reuben Ackerman, 89, rural Gackle, ND died Thursday October 22, 2020 at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center in Jamestown, ND.

Reuben was born on a farm near Streeter, ND on June 9, 1931.  He was the son of Jacob and Katherina (Stroh) Ackerman. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Streeter, ND. He received his elementary education in a rural school southeast of Streeter. He worked on the family farm until 1950 and on the railroad until 1951. He married Alma Esther Krieger on April 12, 1951, in Gackle. Reuben and Alma lived on a farm about 10 miles northwest of Gackle until October 4th, 1966, when they purchased a farm 8 miles northwest of Gackle.  Over the years Reuben was a master of all trades and active in the community.  He served on church counsel, was a member of the Streeter Lions, and a board member for the Township of Germania.  He was a farmer, rancher, and enjoyed helping out as a  meat cutter at the local butcher shops, most recently at Reister Meats, Streeter, ND.  He also enjoyed educating his grandchildren, nephews and nieces on the ways of the farm which included gopher hunting in the pasture.  Reuben’s greatest passion however, was watching and coaching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in sports.   You could always find Reuben and Alma in the stands with Reuben coaching from his seat.

Reuben is survived by a son, Glenn R. (Elaine) Ackerman, Fargo N.D.; two daughters, Gloria (Jerry) Lauf, LaMoure N.D.; Linda (David) Kienzle, Gackle N.D.; one brother, Elmer Ackerman, Hutchison MN.; six grandchildren, Ben (Erin) Lauf, Alicia Lauf, Michelle (Matt) Samek, Christy (Kevin) Meierhofer, Jamie Kienzle, Billy Kienzle; ten great-grandchildren; Londyn, Hollynd, Briar, Reuben, Lyla, Ashley, Jayden, Reannon, Mila, Jaxson.
