William "Buddy" Estel Giles Obituary

Cumberland, MD – William “Buddy” Estel Giles, 93, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Monday, October 26, 2020, at UPMC Western Maryland.  Born October 6, 1927, in Cumberland, MD, Mr. Giles was the son of the late Robert E. Giles and Genevieve M. (McGraw) Giles.  He was also preceded in death by his first wife: Shirley M.  (Foote) Giles, married on July 6, 1952; and his brother: Robert Giles.  A graduate of Fort Hill High School, Class of 1945, where he was Captain of the Basketball Team, Buddy served in the United States Navy from 1945-1946.  He was formerly employed at the First National Bank from 1948-1951, and retired from C&P Telephone Company with 34 years of service.  Buddy enjoyed golf, bowling, tennis, and softball.  He was a member of the New Covenant United Methodist Church.  Buddy is survived by his second wife: Mona L. (Paupe) Giles, who he married on August 19, 1989; his children: Gary E. Giles and wife, Starr; and Mark A. Giles and wife, Mitzi; and his stepchildren: Jill Russell and husband, George; and Mark Paupe and wife, Lynn.  He also leaves behind his sister: Judy Hout; his grandchildren: Gina M. Giles-Hare and husband, Sean; Erin Benevento and husband, Calvin; and William J. Giles; his great grandsons: Jackson and Cody Hare; as well as numerous step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Services were private and officiated by Pastor Donna Renn.  Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.  The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Shakil and her staff, Dr. Litman and his staff, UPMC Western Maryland and Staff, and his faithful sitters, Judy and Carol, as well as to John and Judy Appel for all the support and care given to Buddy.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
