DONALD BRUCE ARTHUR 1944-2020 Donald Bruce Arthur of West Harwich passed away peacefully on October 26th after a short illness. A Cape Codder Donald attended Hyannis schools and graduated from Barnstable High School. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and served aboard the USS Valley Forge. He retired from Barnstable County Police after 26 years of service and then went on to work for the Steamship Authority, retiring after 15 years. He was predeceased by his parents, William Arthur Jr and Marian Ilife Arthur, his sister Jean Arthur Robbins and his wife Christine. He is survived by his brother William S. Arthur and wife Nancy of Barnstable Village, his wife Judith McCabe Arthur of West Harwich, his stepson Michael Notemyer, wife Lauren and their children Layla and Cameron of Marston Mills, his son David and several nieces and nephews. music. He loved winters in the Lower Florida Keys especially spending time on Fort Zachary beach, listening to jazz at the Green Parrott and cocktails at the Sugarloaf Tiki . In West Harwich he was very proud of his yard and took pride in maintaining the beautiful grass and nurturing his garden. He liked riding down to look at Nantucket Sound in the mornings and enjoying afternoon cocktails at the Hot Stove Saloon. He was a life member of VFW Post #2578 in Hyannis, a life member and member in good standing of Hyannis Elks Lodge #1546, life member and past president of the West Barnstable Deer Club and a member of Blue Rock Golf Course. He was more than willing to voice his opinion on several topics sometimes resulting in heated discussions and over the years a few barroom brawls. Donald once said, "I don't want any of that funeral parlor crap, just throw me a party!" As per his wishes the "party" will be held next spring at the West Barnstable Deer Club. Also, as per his wishes, his ashes will be scattered at sea.
