Olga Johanna Livers Weeping Water, Nebraska Obituary

Olga Johanna Livers

Olga Johanna (Pehrson)  Livers In loving Memory of Ogla Johanne Livers June 29th, 1923  - Sunday, October 25th, 2020 Jo was born in Weeping Water to Karl and Marianne (Mogensen) Pehrson from Copenhagen Denmark. An only child she grew up close to her Mogensen cousins, who also settled in that area. After graduating in 1940 at the age of 16, she went to work as a telephone operator. Later friends introduced her to Kenneth Livers of South Bend Nebraska, who was in the Army Air Corp and flew as a crew chief in World War II. They married on December 28, 1946 to this union; a daughter Karen was born in December of 1948; a son David in June of 1950 and a daughter Debby in February of 1954. They all lived in Weeping Water and Lincoln while Kenneth finished Ag College. Moving to the small town of Western Nebraska southeast of Lincoln, they were part of the Saline County Dairy Breeders Association. In 1960 after the death of Kenneth's father, they moved back to the "home place" at the quarry west and north of South Bend and Ken went to work at Ash Grove Cement Plant in Louisville. In 1965 Jo went to work at the Cass County Extension Office in Weeping Water, where for 25 years she managed the office for the Extension Educators by handling the distribution information and material to farmers and homemakers or other walk-in customers. Many 4-H leaders came to recognize her hard work of keeping their programs running smoothly by registering numerous exhibits for the county fair, as well as her regularly preparing required county and state reports. The 4-H council presents  an annual Leadership Award in her honor. Also in 1965, they moved their old school house home to a new foundation with a garage to the northeast corner of  Murdock Nebraska. After retirement, Jo continued to keep busy with family, friends, the United Methodist Women's group and the Lioness Club. An automobile accident in early 2010, had Kenneth and Jo moving to an assisted living facility in Lincoln. Following Ken's death later that year, she stayed there for eight years, then in 2019 she moved to the care center in Waverly. This is a story of a young woman born in the 20th century, living through the Great Depression, the hardships of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. She experienced wringing washers and cloth on the line , she had a nice refrigerator and microwave, and she witnessed landing on the moon and manned flights to and from an orbiting space station. As well as other advances in technology in the 21th century. Especially from the telephone switchboard, serving crank wall phones and party lines, to today's wireless cell phone in your pocket. Jo is survived by her three children, Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews still living in southeastern Nebraska. However at 97 she outlived several family members and many friends.     Funeral Service 2:00 pm Thursday, October 29th, 2020  at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Murdock A Visitation will be held 5:00 pm 7:00 pm  Wednesday, October 28th, at Hammons Family Funeral Chapel Weeping Water   Tributes or Condolences www.hammonsfs.com
