Sheila Ferguson Obituary

Sheila Ferguson, 98, was born on March 6, 1922, and passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at St. Peters University Hospital, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Born in Belair, St. Vincent, West Indies, Sheila came to the United States at age 18, where she met and married alto saxophonist, Edward Ferguson Jr, of the George Sinclair Orchestra. They raised five beautiful children in Brooklyn, New York where she resided for 68 years, before moving to Piscataway, New Jersey. She was a seamstress and a homemaker who desired for her family to succeed in all their endeavors. She encouraged them to be independent, boundless, and strong, but most of all, follow Jesus Christ. Sheila was a parishioner of St. Philips Episcopal Church in Brooklyn and her favorite scripture was Psalm 23. She leaves a legacy of love, prayer, and strong faith. She is predeceased by Edward Ferguson Jr, her siblings, Roy Hope and Clinton Hope, and her son-in-law, Clifton Prescod, Jr. She is survived by her children, Alfred Ferguson, and his wife, Althea, of Piscataway, Earl Ferguson of Paris, France, Cherie Ferguson of Edison, Edie Prescod of Edison, and Edna Ferguson of Atlanta, GA; her sister, Sarah Commissiong of St. Vincent; six grandchildren, Anson Ferguson and his wife Sheree, Gerren Ferguson, Anais Ferguson, Clifton Prescod, III and his wife Jocelyn, Raymond Clinkscale, and Adriana Ferguson; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Ferguson and Kennedy Ferguson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including Audrey Crawford, whom she loved dearly A visitation for family members and invited guests will take place on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, from 10-11 am followed by a Funeral Service from 11 am-12 noon, at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. (Rt.27), Metuchen, New Jersey 08840. Interment will be in Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway, New Jersey. -- If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.
