Melville - A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernice Ducote Maddie will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at St. John Catholic Church in Melville.  Reverend Ugwu Steven will conduct the Mass.  Rite of Committal will follow in the St. John Catholic Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be held in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Melville on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 9:00 AM until time of services.  A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 AM.

Mrs. Maddie, age 83, a resident of Melville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Opelousas.

Bernice was a loving, wife, mother and grandmother.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, cooking large meals for her family, drinking coffee with her friends and watching Hallmark movies.  Bernice will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph Maddie, Jr. of Crowley, LA, Ronnie Maddie (Barbara) of Big Cane, LA, Dannie Maddie (Diane) of Port Barre; her daughters, Sharon Gulina (Lee Michael) of Melville, LA, Bridget Sylvester (DeWitt) of Melville, LA; her daughter-in-law, Denise Maddie and her sisters, Sylvia Mayberry of Simmesport, LA and Marylee Gautreaux of Houma, LA.  She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Rusty Maddie (Becky), Jamie Maddie, Kimberly Knight (Aaron), Benjamin Maddie (Kylie), Lauren Bischoff (Scott), Jonathan Savant, Megan Swati (Jay), Danielle Maddie, Zachary Maddie, Caitlin Maddie, Derian Maddie, Abigail Sylvester, Michelle Gulina and Christina Gulina and 13 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Maddie; her parents, Blume and Belle Ducote; her brother, Huey Ducote and her sisters, Betty Hudgens, Gloria Ducote and Shirley Dupuy.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Maddie, Jamie Maddie, Benjamin Maddie, Jonathan Savant, Zachary Maddie and Derian Maddie.  Honorary pallbearers will be Breyden Maddie, Hunter Johnson and Payton Maddie.
