Anne Taillefer Sudbury, Ontario Obituary

Anne Taillefer

TAILLEFER, Anne ANNE TAILLEFER passed peacefully with dignity and grace at the age of 91 on October 23, 2020 after her family had arrived from out of town to be with her. Predeceased by her husband Rolly, she will be greatly missed by her son Paul (Bobbi), her daughter Elaine (Albert) and her son Pierre (Suzanne). Her loss will also be felt by her granddaughters Sylvie and Stephanie (mother, Louise) and Nathalie-Anne, Christine and Catherine. She leaves behind a bevy of great-grandchildren: Elise, Vivienne, Emmalyn, Nolan and Bentley. Anne was born in Sudbury on May 31, 1929 and spent her childhood there. After attending the University of Ottawa, she became a teacher and started her career in Penetanguishene. She returned to Sudbury after a year and joined the staff of Sheridan Technical School and, eventually, Sudbury Secondary School when the two institutions merged. On returning to Sudbury, she worked part-time as an elevator operator at the Nickel Range Hotel which was owned by her father, Alvarez Rouleau. That is where she met a dashing young scoundrel named Rolly Taillefer. They married in 1953 and started their family in 1954. Anne was totally devoted to her family. She supported her husband through all of his adventures and exploits. She cared for her mother for approximately 25 years following her father’s passing. She found the means for her children to participate in music lessons, cubs, scouts and girl guides and even stepped into the role of cub leader when the lack of one threatened the existence of the pack. Always a teacher, she nurtured the love of learning in her three children who went on to have highly successful careers in education and the trades. Anne, however, would have been happy had they just always tried their best and kept on getting better. Her 48 years of marriage to Rolly were filled with love and adventure. No challenge was too big as they took them on – together! He used to say “You’re the best!” and she used to say “There’s never a dull moment with your Dad around.” They always made things work because their love demanded it. When Anne was diagnosed with cancer in 1983, it shook Rolly to the core but together they beat the odds and she lived 37 years following that diagnosis. Her retirement plans had always included an escape from winter and that was finally achieved in 1998 when they purchased a small getaway place in St. Petersburg, Florida. That dream was short-lived as Rolly passed away in St. Petersburg in 2002. Never wanting to be a burden to her children, Anne was independent to the end. The one thing she knew was that she only had to ask and they would have given her the world. That thought gave her the comfort and the strength to meet all the challenges which she faced later in life. Always courageous, dignified and kind, Anne Taillefer will be greatly missed not only by her family but also by all of those who knew her. The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Jacques and especially to each and every caring dedicated staff member of the Pine Wing at Pioneer Manor. Cremation has taken place and, according to her wishes, no service is being held at this time. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society and The Heart and Stroke Foundation. www.cooperativefuneralhome.ca
