In 1948, with her great courage, inner strength and determined spirit, she made her way on her own to Sheffield, England at the young age of 21. In England, Anna honed her culinary skills, first at the Sheffield School for the Blind and later at the University of Sheffield’s Hall of Residence. When her students would come to her after missing their evening meal, they always knew Anna had left something aside for them and would provide them a late-night snack. Sheffield is where Anna and Alfons met at a local dance. Alfons was a tall Polish former military man who could speak many languages including Italian. They married in 1955 and made their way to Toronto, Canada in 1957 to start a new life. Anna raised her family in Richmond Hill where friends and family often gathered around the dining room table enjoying the most incredible homemade multi-course meals. She leaves behind memories of so many lovingly prepared meals and special recipes like her famous lasagna and signature Yorkshire pudding. Cooking was her passion and there were bookcases of cookbooks and culinary magazines filled with bookmarks marking the next culinary pursuit. As the owner of the Polynesian Motel, Wasaga Beach became her second home. Summers were enjoyed there by the whole family. Sun, sand, water and of course, plenty of great meals. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and residents of Elginwood Long Term Care for their care and support. Special thanks go to Angela, Eldoris, Judy, Cherry and Kelly for their special care and to her dear friend Len Mclean for always making her laugh. Everyone loved Anna and she loved them back. She was sweet and spirited and had a great smile. She was very smart, kind and always put others’ needs ahead of her own. She was 5 ft tall yet larger than life. She was beloved and she will be very dearly missed. Please share your memories on the Marshal Funeral Home site.
