Richard A. Ellis Obituary

YOUNGSTOWN – Richard A. Ellis, 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 21, 2020.

He was born September 7, 1949 in Youngstown, a son of the late Andrew and Betty Zulick Ellis.

Richard graduated from Ursuline High School. He worked for several trucking companies as an automotive freight driver, later becoming his own owner and operator until his retirement.

He was a member of The Cathedral at St. Columba Church, where he drove parishioners in the church bus for over 26 years. He was a member of the Eagles Club and was strong and steadfast in his beliefs and was a part of the Pro-Life Movement.

Richard was a jack of all trades who loved working on cars, but his passion was specifically working on classic cars. He was the proud owner of a ’54 Chevy 5 Window Truck that he loved tinkering on. There was nothing he couldn’t fix and was the go-to handy man for his friends and family.

Richard leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughters, Cindy (Rick McLain) Ellis and Melinda Ellis, both of Youngstown, his beloved companion of over 30 years, Jean Ferkula, as well as many loving friends.

An hour of calling will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Monday, October 26, 2020 at The Cathedral at St. Columba Church, followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, celebrated by Msgr. Robert Siffrin. He will then be entombed next to his mother in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any material contributions be made to a charity that was very dear to Richard, the Right to Life Movement of Mahoning Valley, P.O. Box 1074 Youngstown, OH 44501 in his memory.

In accordance with the current safety and health recommendations, please maintain 6-foot social distancing and wear a mask. We politely ask that all visitors that are not staying for the service exit the church after paying their respects to the family.  Please do not linger. Thank you.

The family has entrusted Richard’s care to the Kubina-Yuhasz-Wasko Funeral Home. Please visit www.waskofamily.com to view the obituary and send the family condolences.
