Funeral services for Smokey Wildeman, 74 year old Buffalo resident who passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon at the Johnson County Health Care Center in Buffalo, will be held Thursday, October 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the Summit Wesleyan Church in Buffalo with Pastor William Dunlap officiating. Visitation will be held from the Harness Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Private family Interment will be in Willow Grove at a later time. Donations in Smokey’s memory may be made to the Summit Wesleyan Church in Care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo. Online condolences may be made at www.harnessfuneralhome.com. Albert Lee “Smokey” Wildeman was born on October 9, 1946 in Waupun, Wisconsin to Albert and Marie Wildeman. He grew up and went to school in Waupun and graduated Waupun High School with the class of 1965. After high school he worked at Schaler Manufacturing in Waupun for two years. He was married on July 1st, 1967 in Waupun to Judy Rosol and they made their home in Waupun and started their family of three children. In 1970 he joined the Waupun Police Department and served for eight years. In 1978 they moved to Buffalo, Wyoming where he took a job with the Buffalo City Police Department. He worked at Gary’s Food Farm in Buffalo for several years and in 1983 he went to work for the KLGM Radio in Buffalo and became general manager. In 1994 he and Judy bought into KLGM Radio and in 1996 they bought KBBS Radio. They owned and operated the KLGT, KBBS and KZZS radio stations until they sold them in 2000 and Smokey stayed on as general manager until 2010. After retirement Smokey continued to be extremely active in the community until his passing. He was a member of Summit Wesleyan Church, the Buffalo Lion’s Club; he was fire chief for Johnson County Fire for thirteen years; he was a member of the Buffalo Chamber Board; he was on the board of the Johnson County Crippled Children’s Camp; he was a Johnson County Commissioner and was chairman of the commission; he was a member of the Johnson County Planning and Zoning Committee and was the Johnson County Emergency Management Coordinator. He is survived by his wife Judy Wildeman of Buffalo; one daughter Jodi Verplancke and her husband Jim of Buffalo; one son Steve Wildeman and his wife Gayl of Whitehall, Montana; three sisters Alyce Paul of Rancho Mirage, California, Sharon Brainard and her husband Larry of Yuma, Arizona, and Barbara McCann of Waupun Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Sierra, Tanner and Kacy Jo and her husband Kyle and four great-grandchildren, Chloe, Kyle, Katherine and Antonia; He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Pam and one brother Henry.October 9, 1946 - October 22, 202010/09/194610/22/2020
