Gertrude M. (Schmuhl) Tillstrom, 95, of St. Joseph passed away Oct. 23, 2020 at Woodland Terrace Assisted Living in Bridgman. Gertrude was born January 26, 1925 in Coloma, MI to Leslie and Frances Schmuhl. She graduated from Coloma High School in in 1942. On February 3, 1946 she married the love of her life, Robert B. Tillstrom. They were happily married for 45 years. Gertrude was a dedicated Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, and friend to many. As a homemaker and partner in the family farm in Sodus, she and Bob grew their poultry business into one of the largest egg farms in the area. They also farmed fruit and grain on their expansive land. Bob preceded her to heaven on July 2, 1991. She is survived by her children, Linda Kurzynski of Stevensville, John Tillstrom of Holt, MI, Thomas (Cheryl) Tillstrom of St Joseph and Valerie (Lee) Tillstrom Albright of Brighton, MI. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Briana Tillstrom of Navarro, CA, Preston (Megan) Tillstrom of Chicago, Steven Tillstrom of St. Joseph, Katelyn (Josh) Allington of Portage; step grandchildren, Valerie (Tricia) Kurzynski of Fenton, MI and Gary (Marie) Kurzynski Jr of Fowlerville, MI; four step-great-grandchildren; her brother, Leslie Schmuhl Jr. of Coloma and many beloved nieces and nephews here in Michigan and across the country. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, October 26, 2020 at 11 AM St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sodus where Gertrude has been a member for over 60 years, and she served in the Ladies Aid Society. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Friends may visit with the Family beginning at 10 AM prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sodus.
