Denver Lee Tuckey, Sr.
Denver Lee Tuckey, Sr., went home to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of October 22, 2020, while surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 87. He would want the reader to know that you, too, can have the same hope of eternal life that he enjoyed because of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection – a sacrifice of love for you. Denver was born in New Cumberland, PA, on July 25, 1933, the son of Martha (Whisler) Tuckey and step-son of George Martin Tuckey. Denver was retired from the Tuckey Companies and had lived with his wife, Gayle, in the Carlisle area since 1961. He graduated from Enola High School in 1952. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gayle (Deckman) Tuckey, and sons Kenneth (wife Marsha) and Michael (wife Becky) of Carlisle. He was preceded in death by his son Denver “Pete” Tuckey, Jr., of Newville. Denver’s siblings are Georgetta Crone, Martha Perry (deceased), David Tuckey, and James Tuckey (deceased). He was blessed with an extended family that included four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Denver served his community well for decades. He was known by many in the Carlisle area as “the million dollar man” for being the first United Way Capital Campaign chairperson to raise one million dollars in a single campaign, which took place in 1994. Denver served on various other community boards and nonprofit leadership teams, including the Carlisle YMCA, Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce (Chairman), Carlisle Summerfair, Capital Campaign Review Board, Leadership Carlisle (now known as Leadership Cumberland), Teen Challenge (Chairman), Carlisle Area Industrial Development Corporation (CAIDC), Cumberland County Planning Commission, and the Rotary Club of Carlisle (Past President). In addition to his construction career and community service, Denver also served on the Board of Directors of Orrstown Bank. Denver’s background in construction and heart for people took him to the mission field, focusing on building projects in Central America, South America, and Europe. He was a life-long Christian, having taught Sunday School classes and leading Bible studies at various churches he attended and among friends. He dearly loved the Lord, his wife, and his family. Most recently, Denver attended Bethany Evangelical Church of Carlisle. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. A memorial service celebrating Denver’s life will be announced at a later date.
