Joyce Irene MacPhee Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia Obituary

Joyce Irene MacPhee

MacPHEE, Joyce – age 89 of Gore. It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of Joyce Irene MacPhee, of Gore, Hants County. Joyce passed away in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro on October 21,2020 with family by her side. Joyce was born in 1931 to Rosslyn and Marion (Hayes) McCulloch, in North Noel Road, Hants County. Upon leaving high school Joyce taught school for a brief time before being employed at the Royal Bank of Canada in Shubenacadie. She met the love of her life, Larry MacPhee, a farmer in Gore. They married, settled on the farm, and raised two sons, Tony and Terry. Life on the farm was busy and rewarding for Joyce. Huge vegetable gardens, busy fishponds, a bakery business, and blueberry production made the family well known in the area. Joyce was a devoted wife, loving and proud mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her heart was always full of love for family and friends. Her dinner table welcomed all who dropped by for a visit. Joyce and Larry had a tradition of remembering friends in need or in poor health and were generous in many ways. Joyce's most favourite place in the whole world was GORE but she also loved flying and family trips were special for her. Social gatherings, card parties and musicals in Rawdon Gold Mines hall gave Joyce much pleasure. She loved entertaining family and friends, telling stories of earlier days and a joke or two were sure to pop up! Her wit and laughter will be missed by all. Joyce is survived by her son, Terry (Debra Donovan) MacPhee; grandson, Scotty (Prily) MacPhee; granddaughter, Tanya MacPhee; great grand children, Prisco, Cameron and Alistair MacPhee; brother, David McCulloch; sisters, Marilyn Monk, Alice MacPhee and Joanne (Philip) MacBeth. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Larry; son Tony and brother, Gordon McCulloch. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. An outdoor graveside service celebrating Joyce's life will be held on Monday, October 26, 2020 at 1 pm in Gore Cemetery with Rev. Angus R. MacDonald officiating. Masks and social distancing are required. Many thanks are extended to the ICU staff at Truro Hospital for their special care for Joyce and for their kind considerations of family. Donations in memory of Joyce may be made to Gore Cemetery, c/o Susan Ward, 918 Highway 236, Stanley, NS, B0N2A0 Tributes, words of comfort and memories of Joyce may be shared with the family at www.ettingerfuneralhome.com

Joyce was a very close friend. We talked most every day on the telephone, and we always checked in on each other. Many times, Joyce and I would have her last conversation of the day at bedtime, and I always appreciated our talks. I will miss her calls and her friendship.... Continue Reading
