Lola L. Holtschlag Obituary

Lola L. Holtschlag, 89, of Quincy, IL, passed away at 6:49 pm Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, October 29, 2020 at Calvary Cemetery in Quincy. Pastor Chris Lefever will officiate. The family is being served by the O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy. Lola was born March 1, 1931, in Quincy, IL to William and Lela I. Giles Wade. She was married to Louis A. Holtschlag on February 8, 1997 in St. Mary's Church in Quincy. He survives. In addition to her husband, other survivors include four children, Roy M. Heck of Quincy, IL, Pam Rodgers of Bloomfield, IA, Michael J. Bier of Quincy, IL and Debora Rabe (Michael) of Ursa, IL; nine grandchildren, Cindy Quick, Michael Rodgers, Herbert Wayne Rodgers, Brandon Bier, Jason Heck, Lori Wright, Ryan McClelland (Jessica), Stephanie McClelland, and Laurin Espy (Steve); 26 great-grandchildren, Randi Lynn, Steven, Jennifer, Michael, Kyle, Kevin, Dalton, Dakota, Jake, Kayla, Shawn, Gabe, Allee, Addyson, Killian, Connor, Owen, Zachary, Tyler, Presten, Dylan, Quinten, Allyson, Juliann, Emma, and Michelle; 10 great-great-grandchildren, Mary, Emma, Brynlee, Remi, Braxton, LynnLee, Tay Dence, Laci, Lane, and Paisley; one sister, Bonnie Corrigan (Carl) of Canton, MO; and many nieces and nephews. Lola was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William Wade Bauer and Hoover Wade (Millie); two sisters, Roberta Maxine Hammond and Roxann Christal; one great-great-grandchild, Bretta Pickett; and one son-in-law, Herb Rodgers. Professionally, Lola was a laborer at several places over the years, including Quincy Speaker, Quincy Paper Box, and Micro Energy. Lola enjoyed working in her yard, whether that be planting flowers, gardening, or watching the hummingbirds and finches. She loved her trips to Branson, Florida, and Las Vegas with her family. Lola was a very strong-willed and determined woman, but was always ready to help anyone in need. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She also loved her dogs over the years: Char, Teddy, Brandi, and Sam. Lola was Baptist by faith. Pallbearers will be Dakota Rodgers, Michael Rodgers, Steven Rodgers, Ryan McClelland, Mike Rabe, and Steve Espy. Memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church or Blessing Breast Cancer Center.
