Charles Calvin Bullard

A legacy of Life, Love and Service On the 18th of February 1938 Charles Calvin Bullard was born in New Orleans Louisiana. Affectionately revered as Pops, Uncle Charles and Mr. B, Charles was the seventh child of Hazel Jordan Bullard and Cleo Bullard. •Alcee Bullard (deceased) •Cleonia Bullard-Floyd (deceased) •Rupert Bullard •JoAnn Bullard-Williams •François Bullard (deceased) •Cleo Bullard •Pops •Randolph Bullard A genuine child of the city, Charles attended Booker T. Washington High School and was baptized at Second Free Missionary Baptist Church uptown. Excellence in Service and Family Dedication After high school, Charles enlisted in the United States Air Force and deployed to his first assignment with the Transportation Motor-pool at Offutt Air Force Base, in Omaha Nebraska. In 1958, the twenty-year-old Airman traveled home to marry his “sweetheart for life,” Rosie Taylor, also of New Orleans. From that moment on he and his homegirl sweetie were off on their life adventure together. First stop was their return to Nebraska, to complete his first assignment. In 1960 Charles was ordered to the Transportation Squadron at Toul-Rosieres Air Base France. His young wife was not allowed to accompany Charles, so she returned home where she bore their first child, Karl Anthony while dad served honorably in Europe. While stationed at the Air Base in France, Charles, a very competitive athlete, also played on the 1960 Championship Basketball team. In 1962 the saga continued as the couple rejoined and moved to Vandenburg Air Force base in southern California. While assigned there Charles’ duties included transporting Atlas InterContinental Ballistic Missiles around the launch complex. During this assignment Charles and Rose were blessed by the delivery of their next “baby boys,” Terrence Anthony (deceased) in 1963 and Charles Anthony in 1964. In 1966 the adventure delivered the Bullard family overseas to an assignment at Bentwaters Air Base in England. In the middle of 1968 Charles and family rotated back to the states and his next assignment, Beale Air Force Base in northern California. By this time, he had successfully trained as a mechanic on critical aircraft fuel systems. He became proficient on several legendary combat airframes. In 1970 Charles deployed for an unaccompanied year to South Vietnam. He was part of the critical Aircraft Maintenance Support for the Air War in Southeast Asia. In 1971 Charles rejoined Rosie and the boys, and was reassigned to the aircraft Field Maintenance Squadron at Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson Arizona. While continuing his proficiency as a Fuel Systems technician on various aircraft airframes at Davis Monthan, Charles was handpicked to serve two more remote combat tours in Southeast Asia. One year in Thailand, and six months at Okinawa Japan. His selfless contribution of service to this country continued to grow in scope and impact. After returning to his family in Arizona in 1974, Charles and the gang moved to Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Fairborn Ohio. In 1977 Charles was reassigned to an aircraft maintenance squadron at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany. His last military assignment move was to Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City Louisiana in 1980. In 1981 Charles completed his adventurous tour of duty when he retired from 26 years of Honorable Military Service to his country. The Saga Continues – Life – Love - Happiness The journey for Charles and Rosie resumed even after their globetrotting odyssey of military assignments. In 2002, after 20 years of federal civil service Charles and his homegirl sweetheart moved from Shreveport to Rosedale Louisiana. This was the first time in over 40 years that the couple lived and thrived close to home surrounded by the joy and love of family. In 2006 The couple again on the move, relocated from Rosedale, Louisiana to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This time they were determined to be close to their oldest son Karl and his wife Deidra’s young family. While in Oklahoma they not only enjoyed their role as grandparents to Karls’s boys Dior and Daen, they were elated to become great-grandparents to Dior’s children Kenneth and Laila and Daen’s kids Kylah and Aleigha. This year, August 2020, Charles and Rosie moved to Euless Texas, to be close to their youngest son Charles and his wife Cassandra’s loving family. They have been thrilled to be surrounded by the abundant love of their grandsons Charles Jr. and Antoine, as well as their great-grandchildren Cassie, Charli and Cai. Charles Calvin Bullard passed away quietly on October 16th 2020 after suffering a stroke a few days prior. He is survived by his sweetheart partner for life Rosie Bullard; his sons Karl Bullard and Charles Bullard; his four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; his siblings Rupert, JoAnn, Cleo and Randy; and so many nephews, nieces and cousins. Charles was so many things to so many as his journey remains an example of positivity and possibility. A lifetime of honorable service to this country A loving son, husband and father; a compassionate brother and a favored, beloved uncle and friend. A loving son, husband and father; a compassionate brother and a favored, beloved uncle and friend. An athlete who excelled in football and particularly basketball and bowling. An accomplished golfer, he gladly took on any and all challengers, and a few wagers any time. A music lover. In particular a gospel and jazz enthusiast. Miles Davis and Coltrane can play all day bruh. A Dominologyst Supreme (I think that’s what he called it). Again anytime, anyplace. Sadly, the world will never be the same
