Kathleen Pierce Hanchey, age 88, of the Northeast Community of Wallace left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Thursday, October 22, 2020 from the Brian Center of Wallace.

She was born on May 5, 1932 in Wayne County to the late Ross and Vada Batchelor Pierce.  Kathleen was also predeceased  by her husband, Henry Gordon Hanchey; her daughter, Janice Faye Hanchey and her six siblings, Alvin Pierce, Stella Evans, Helen Sloan, Jolly Pierce, Randall Pierce and Shelby Sholar.

Kathleen attended Northeast Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.

Surviving are her sons, Gordon Lee Hanchey and Henry Steven Hanchey, both of Wallace; granchildren, Jeffery Gordon Hanchey and wife, Lindsey and Lori Hanchey Harmon and husband, Rusty, Amber Hanchey Wilson and husband, Joe, Christopher Michael Prevatte and wife, Beth and Jill Prevatte English and her husband, Tony; great grandchildren, Kyndall and Paige English, Kathleen Prevatte, Gracie Harmon, Alex Hanchey and Reece Hanchey; son-in-law, Michael Gurgainous; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who loved Kathleen dearly.

Kathleen was a loving mother and caring grandmother, sister and friend.  She enjoyed the simplest things in life but her greatest joy was her family.  Kathleen always put the needs of others before herself. She was a diligent homemaker and wonderful cook who took great pride in preparing meals for her family, friends and for those who were sick or had lost a loved one.  With a servant's heart, Kathleen helped with many benefits and dinners in the Northeast community throughout the years. She was a vital part of the "Pink Supper House" for at least 40 years, where so many gathered to eat and fellowship on Saturday evenings.  Kathleen sacrificed many things so that her children could have the things they needed as they were growing up. To the world, she might just be another woman, but to her children and grandchildren she was their world. She was the matriarch of her family but also of the community in which she lived.  Her family is thankful to  God that He looked down on them and blessed them with the best.

“Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter into your rest….where you shall forever be with the Lord”.
