Otto Dusterhoft Obituary

Otto Dusterhoft November 19, 1931 - October 18, 2020 It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Otto Dusterhoft on October 18, 2020, in Calgary at the age of 88 years. Otto was born in Rocky Rapids, Alberta and was the youngest of seven children. He spent his early life at the family farm, and as a young man started working on a field crew near Drayton Valley for Stanolind Oil of Indiana. Otto worked through the ranks in the oil industry and eventually retired as a Vice President at POCO Petroleum. He married the love of his life, Violet (neé Schoen) in 1958, and they spent 62 happy years together raising their four children, Dale (Gail), Lori (Dennis) Crawford, Janice (Rod) Sulek and Cheryl (Kurt) Davis. He will also be lovingly remembered by 11 grandchildren, relatives, neighbours and friends. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Julius and Matilda, and brothers and sister: Gus, Rudolph, Herman, Elsie, William, and Paul. Otto has always been “young at heart” and ready to try any activity with his children and grandchildren. He loved animals, was a farmer at heart, and found peace and solace being outdoors and working on his farm. In his later years, he also loved to golf, garden, hunt, fish, camp and visit with family and friends. He was always willing to share a joke. His quick-wit and positive attitude will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. Otto had a strong faith and was an active member of Foothills Lutheran Church. He passed on this legacy of faith to his family for which we are eternally grateful. He exemplified his Christian values in everything he did professionally and personally and will always be remembered for his honesty, integrity, love, faith, and humble dignity. He treated everyone with respect and fairness. Otto now resides in Jesus’ loving arms. Otto passed away after a brief illness and complications from COVID-19 at Foothills Hospital. A private Family Service will be held at Foothills Lutheran Church on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at 11:00 am, with opportunity to join the service virtually live and for 48 hours at facebook.com/foothillslutheran. Otto will be laid to rest at the Rocky Rapids Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Foothills Lutheran Church or Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.
