Daniel Austin O'Connell, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, formerly of Rockville, MD, entered into eternal rest on October 21, 2020. Dan was born on August 10, 1943 in New York, NY to Daniel Francis O'Connell and Mary Frances McHale O'Connell. He graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, DC with a BS in Foreign Service. While attending Georgetown, he met the love of his life, Patricia Louise Ellerman. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he received his MBA from New York University. He later went on to become a CPA and CFP. Dan's career in accounting and financial services spanned over 25 years. Dan was an avid supporter of the Georgetown University Hoyas basketball team. He was a member of the Hoya Hoop Club and organized Hoya game watches in Mt. Pleasant. He was a faithful parishioner of Christ Our King Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, a member of MENSA, and a proud Eagle Scout. His diverse hobbies over the years included investing, ping pong, chess, roller skating, glass collecting, traveling, reading and attending stock car races. Dan will be dearly missed by his devoted family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Ellerman O'Connell; three daughters, Heather Patrice Stevens (Dave) of Ocean Pines, MD, Erinbeth Jennifer Massie (David) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Alison Melissa O'Connell of Nashville, TN; and five grandchildren, Austin Reese Stevens, Shea Patrice Stevens, Sean Patrick Massie, Katherine Eileen Massie, and Megan Elise Massie. Dan is predeceased by his granddaughter, Bridget Colleen Massie, brother, Francis Joseph O'Connell and his parents. Services will be held at Christ Our King Catholic Church on Monday, October 26, 2020, with burial to follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. All services will be held privately.
