Robert Patrick Newman, age 85, of Wilmont, MN, died October 22, 2020 at the Minnesota
Veterans Home in Luverne, MN.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday October 24th at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Wilmont,
MN. 

  Visitation is from 9:30am-10:30am followed by Mass at 10:30am, Father Colletti
officiating. Burial will take placeat the Calvary Cemetery in Wilmont, MN with full military honors. 

   A lunch will be served in the church basement.  Distance and mask restrictions will be observed.
 
  Robert Patrick Newman was born July 10, 1935 to Thomas and Lucille (Hippert) Newman.  He
graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic High School in 1953.  He enlisted in the
Army that same year and served his country as a paratrooper, during the cold war, in the 11th
Airborne Division from 1953 to 1958.  Most of his time was served in Stuttgart, Germany. 
Robert worked on a farm as a hired hand for two years after leaving the service.  He then
started farming on his own, the place he still calls home.  He met and married the love of his life,
Judy Pass, on January 28, 1961.
  Robert was active in his community.  He was a member of the Our Lady of Good Counsel
Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Wilmont, MN.  During the years his nine
children attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Worthington, MN he served on the School
Board.  He also served on the Wilmont Elevator Board for sixteen years and the Wilmont Mutual
Board for thirty-eight years.
  Robert is survived by his wife Judy, his nine children; Mary (Fran)Tramp, Blencoe, IA; Robert
(Gina) Newman, Wilmont, MN; Kevin (Marlae) Newman, Sioux Falls, SD; Keith (Tammy)
Newman, Worthington, MN; June (Scott) Schmokel, Prior Lake, MN; Craig (Margo) Newman,
Wilmont, MN; Julie (Travis) Galleberg, Forest Lake, MN; Amy (Nabil) Salama, New Richmond, 
WI; Tony (Masa) Newman, Victoria, MN; 23 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; two sisters
and 2 brothers Roberta (Larry) Buckmaster, Michael Newman, Mary Gwerder and Richard
Newman.
  He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Lucille, one sister Alice, one brother
Thomas, brother-in-laws Wally Stuntebeck and Joe Gwerder and a sister-in-law Rose Newman.

In Lieu of flowers, the family would like any monetary memorials directed to the MN Vets Home in Luverne.
