Mary Moore Hancock

Mrs. Mary Moore Hancock, 87, of Monroe, NC passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020. One day shy of her 88th birthday. She was born in Union County on October 23, 1932 to the late Woodrow Wilson Moore and Katy Helms Moore. She is also preceded in death by her husband George T. Hancock, son George Hancock, brother Billy “Easy” Wilson Moore, and sister Harriet Griffin. A funeral service will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive friends and relatives prior to the service from 1:45PM until 2:45PM. The burial will follow at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery, 5709 Philadelphia Baptist Church Road, Marshville, NC 28103. She was a school bus driver for Union County Public Schools for 27 years and cared for all children like her own. Cooking was one of her favorite past times and she loved cats. Mary is survived by her son, Henry Michael “Mike” Hancock (Debbie), brothers, Jerry Moore and Woody Moore, sister, Brenda Perry (Tom), four grandchildren, Tamara Collins (Ryan), Stacey Faulk, Tabetha Hancock (Donald English), Thomas Hancock (Catherine Hart) and four great-grandchildren, Brandon Faulk, Elaina Moore, Nathan Arant, Azrael Hart and Madelynn Faulk. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220 or Council on Aging in Union County, 1401 Skyway Dr, Monroe, NC 28110.
