Josephine Delores Gould Obituary

Gould, Josephine Delores, age 65, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on October 20th. She was the daughter of the late Ella Mae Francis and Joseph Patrick Nicholas She is survived by her children Hubert (Sherri) and Robert as well as her grandchildren Kamden, Trinity, Xavier & Nicholas. Her surviving siblings are Sadie, Jennie, Mary, Anne and brothers Noel & Durney, and was predeceased by Joseph, Anthony, Norman, James, Margaret Rose, Catherine, Clara, Suzie Anne and one in infancy. She was proud to be part of the PLFN's Elders elite as well as elder for MLSN who would educate anyone on the Indian Residential Schools. As a proud Survivor of IRS she advised and reminded the younger generation when possible of the struggles the Mi'kmaq had. She truly enjoyed being a teacher's aid for years and cherished teaching youth. Josephine was known to take in many people to help them get back on their feet over the years which was a true sign of her character. She cherished spending time with friends and family of which there are many as well as loved making traditional crafts, playing double up, creating new FB accounts, smoking cigarettes and drinking Pepsi. Josephine was a grassroots grandmother that loved attending pow wows and supported advancing Native Women and overall First Nation Rights and would protest when possible. She was an avid proponent of the St. Annes Mission services each year and had many stories of her trips to Quebec to pick up ceremonial items for the Maligomish services. Born and raised in Pictou Landing she cared a lot for this community and its people and was not afraid to show her displeasure or support. This truly generous person will be surely missed by all those that frequently stopped in to visit her daily as well as those that met her for a short time. The Wake will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Pictou Landing First Nation and will begin on Saturday at 7pm and on the services will be on Monday at 11 am. Donations can be made to the Maligomish Restoration fund through the PLFN Band.
