Ortez Levelle Morris, was born to the late Faye Morris and Cornell Daniels on April 20, 1971 in Durham, NC and gained his gained his heavenly wings on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at UNC Hospice Center in Pittsboro, NC.

Ortez or “Tez” as he was often called, was educated in the Durham County Public School System.  He played the Trumpet and was a Drum Major for the Durham High School Marching Bulldogs, where he graduated as part of the Class of 1989.  After graduation he enrolled in the U.S. Army.  Ortez later attended North Carolina Central University and Durham Technical Community College. 

Ortez was employed by SwiftyServe, Exxon Gas Company and The US Census Bureau for many years.  He enjoyed working with all types of electronics, but his passion was working with and fixing computers.  Ortez had a love for Marvel comics and movies and collected comic books and Pokemon cards.

Ortez was a faithful member of Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Pastor L. L. Freeman for many years.  He served as the Pastor’s Assistant, Church Administrator, van driver and sang in the Inspirational & the Voices Men Choirs.  He later joined Judah House of Praise Ministry.  While at Judah, Ortez served as the van driver, Church Secretary, and Head of the Media Department, as well as other duties within the church ministry until his health declined. He also faithfully volunteered at the Mt. Level 2 Fish and 5 Loaves Food Pantry.  His love towards God and people was unconditional.

Ortez was proceeded in death by his maternal grandparents, Johnie & Sallie Morris, his paternal grandparents, Deacon Joseph & Evangelist Minnie Spann, his mother, Faye Morris, and three uncles: Johnnie Morris Jr., Sammy Lee Morris, and Alfred Morris.

He leaves to cherish his memories his faithful and loving wife, Tammie Gooch Morris of Durham, NC, his father Cornell Daniels, and his stepson Bradley Gooch of Oxford, NC; his brother Lavelton Morris; two uncles Dennis Morris (Connie) of Newport News, VA, James Morris of Durham, NC; three aunts: Peggy Morris of Durham, NC, Gloria Eleby (Charles) of Hampton, VA, and Glenda Morgan (Anderson) of Raleigh, NC; his brother-in-law Demond Gooch of Raleigh, NC; his mother-in-law, Willa Hatcher of Oxford, NC; four nieces: Marissia, Marquita, Mikila, and Tori, and three great nephews, CJ, Caden, and Mikai and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
