Shirley Lautenbach Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Shirley Lautenbach, age 89, of Grand Rapids. Our grief is coupled with great joy as we know that she was welcomed home with open arms by her Savior, Jesus Christ. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Donald Lautenbach; her children Kris Skinner, Kerri and Brian Diemer, Kim and Bill Lodewyk, Doug and Jackie Lautenbach, Kelli and Kevin Schutte; her grandchildren Jamie and Kevin In’t Hout, Joseph and Emily Skinner, Jennifer and Ryan Noorman, Jordyn and Tate Glasscock, Kelsey and Joel Klingenberg, Kaitlin and Joe Salowitz, McKenzie and Dave Pluymert, Matt and Ashley Diemer, Krista Lodewyk, Jenna Lodewyk, Ben Lodewyk, Abigail and Travis Vegter and Jeremy Schutte; her great grandchildren Taylor, Ashlyn, Olivia, Cameron, JJ, Lily, Knox, Kaiden, Skylar, Dylan, Lexi, Trey, Gunnar, Bodie, Scout, Axel, Rowan, Cambrie, Asher and Cole.  Shirley had a deep love for her family and leaves a legacy of faith, prayer, and encouragement. It brought her great joy to cheer on her children and grandchildren at numerous sporting events. Whether it was Calvin’s cross-country and volleyball teams or a gym, field, or track at South Christian, she was always their number one fan. She also had a talent for organizing events for her church, extended family, Raybrook neighbors and the Calvin CALL program. She loved to gather people together with her gift of hospitality. Her doors were always open. Her love for books and learning was passed on to her children and grandchildren as she bought each one of them a book every Christmas. She also received her master’s degree at age 67. She never stopped learning!  The family will be having a private graveside service and they will be offering a public memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 8701 Leeds Road, Kansas City, MO 64129, put Jenna Lodewyk, 24414P00 in memo line or online at http://my.fca.org/jennalodewyk; Calvin University, c/o Cross Country and Volleyball Teams, Attn: Mike LeFebre, 3201 Burton, Grand Rapids MI 49546; or South Christian High School Athletic Program, c/o David Kool, 7979 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Byron Center MI 49315.
