Eleanor Bensen

Shelburne - Eleanor (Brugge) Bensen, 97 passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at UVM Medical Center in Burlington, VT. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 5, 1923 daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Thompson) Brugge. She married Harold “Hal” Bensen on November 24, 1943. After graduating High School, Eleanor worked for a Wall Street accounting firm in New York City, she was later employed by National Life Insurance in Montpelier, VT. She spent many years working with Hal Bensen Realty and later managing the Bensen Development Company in South Burlington, VT. She moved to Corinth, VT, in 2007. She had been resident at The Residence at Shelburne Bay since February of this year. A believer in Jesus Christ since childhood, Eleanor prayed faithfully for her family and friends over the years. She was a long-time member of North Avenue Alliance Church, Burlington, VT. She is survived by her son Craig Bensen (Deb) of Cambridge, VT; grandson Ben Bensen (Ilse) of Indian Land, SC; great granddaughters Anabel and Daniele Bensen plus great grandson Eliyah Bensen of Indian Land, SC; also her namesake great granddaughter Eleanor Fiegl with her father Charles Fiegl of Silver Spring, MD; her son-in-law Robert Sundheim of Hudson, NY; her two granddaughters, Amy Hathway (Bill) of Freeville, NY, and Catherine Peck (Jason) of Chatham, NY; her great granddaughters Myla and Kinsley Peck of Chatham, NY; her son Clark Bensen (Cynthia) of Corinth, VT; her two granddaughters, Meredith Calabrese (Mark) of Falls Church, VA and Stafford Bensen (Jeffery Grover) of Somerville, MA; and her great granddaughter Madeline Calabrese of Falls Church, VA; and her sister-in-law Marilyn Secor of Savoy, IL. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Harold in 2000; her granddaughter Amanda Bensen Fiegl in 2017; her daughter Charlene Sundheim in 2019; and her brother Robert Brugge in 1997. A private graveside service will be held in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1 PM on Monday, October 26, 2020.
