Ivan Stanley Gish Obituary

Ivan Stanley Gish passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020, at the age of 86. “I.S.” was born Oct. 6, 1934, in Manhattan, Kansas, and grew up in Battle Ground, Washington, as the youngest of nine siblings. He was a loving husband to Beverly for 65 years. They had three children, Judy Gutkowski (Larry), Mike Gish (Christine). and Jill Roper (Brian); nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a wonderful friend, father figure and role model to many. Ivan was always about others. He was a go-to for many whenever they were sad or happy, or needed encouragement or advice. Ivan had a way of making everyone feel special and cared fo, as in giving each family member their own unique nickname (Ivan was “Big Booch” and his son, Michael, was “Little Booch”). He was humble, compassionate, empathetic and always cheering for the underdog, although he himself was a competitor through and through. Ivan’s humorous nature was expressed through his everyday jokes, pranks and famous one-liner quips. He would often tease his grandchildren, “It’s hard to soar like an eagle when you’re surrounded by turkeys.” Ivan’s family feels so blessed to have had him in their lives and give thanks that he has gone to be with his Heavenly Father and his family and friends that have preceded him. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
