Marvin C. Brinkman

MARVIN C. BRINKMAN was born on December 3, 1938, to Cornelius and Christine (Hiemstra) Brinkman in Ashton, Iowa. He was baptized on April 2, 1939, at the First Methodist Church in Sheldon, Iowa. As a child, he relocated to southwest Minnesota and was confirmed at the Methodist Church in Ruthton, Minnesota. Marvin attended Tyler Public School and graduated in 1956. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Christianson on September 17, 1960, at First English Lutheran Church in Tyler, Minnesota where they made their home. Their marriage would go on to be blessed with over 60 years. Marvin’s first career was as carpenter in Tyler from 1961 to 1982, after which he went on to have a 22-year career as a custodian at Marshall Junior High School. In the late 1980’s, Marvin and Carolyn relocated to their home on Lake Benton where they resided for over ten years. While living on the lake, Marvin was an active member of the Lake Benton Lake Association. The couple returned to Tyler and shortly after, in 2004, Marvin retired. On Tuesday, October 20, 2020, Marvin died at his home in Tyler at the age of 81 years, ten months, and 17 days. Marvin spent much of his free time working on bicycles for the neighborhood children. He also enjoyed the outdoors while hunting, fishing, camping, and boating. He continued to use his skills learned as a carpenter by doing woodwork. Marvin loved wintering in Texas with his wife during their later years. In addition to the great memories made while fishing, camping, and attending the grandchildren’s sporting events, Marvin’s family will always hold dear the little memories and happy times such as watching him ride his motorcycle through the basement door. Marvin is remembered by his wife, Carolyn of Tyler; Jolene (Paul) Bendix of Wyoming, Minnesota, Michelle (Jeff) Michelson of Lynd, Minnesota, and Lynn (Harvey) Velasquez of Ruthton, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Michael (Megan) and Aaron Bendix, Macie Michelson, Kelsey (Dale) Meinert, and Ashley and Brandon (Jessica) Verly; five great-grandchildren, Harper and Sloan Bendix, Jason and Cody Johnson, and Savannah Verly; and one great-grandson anticipated soon. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
