Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com Sherrie was born June 3, 1939 in Kansas City, KS to Lawson Raymond and Doris Claire (Moore) Barlow. She grew up in Olathe, KS where she was graduated from Olathe High School in 1957. Sherrie earned her BS in Education from the University of Kansas and was a remedial reading teacher for the Shawnee Mission School District. She married Lawrence T. Loftus on October 14, 1961, and they had three children: Leslie Blanke (David) of Austin, TX; Lars Loftus (Emma) of the UK; and Laura Wiggin (Mark) of Hillsdale, KS. After Larry’s death in 1982, Sherrie later married Ralph E. Myers on December 31, 1987. Ralph died in 2007. Sherrie was a voracious reader and was always looking to quench her thirst for knowledge. She also possessed a passion for travel, adventure, and sport. In her early years, she and Larry were active members of the Olathe Ski Club, where she performed aerial demonstrations kiting behind a tow boat, as well as being part of the skiing pyramid. Next up for them was snow skiing, a passion they shared with their three children. Then it was on to sailing in the Caribbean with Larry, again sharing that passion with their three children and, later, with Ralph. Her talents weren’t limited to the outdoors. As those who knew her well will attest, drama was never far from her heart. Sherrie performed all through school and university, majoring in theatre whilst at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She excelled in the culinary arts as well. She co-wrote a column for Bon Appetit magazine and enjoyed baking with her grandchildren at every opportunity. Sherrie worked tirelessly to give back to the community in many ways. She headed up an extensive campaign to bring a much-needed community centre to Olathe, was instrumental as the clerk of the course for her children’s swim teams, volunteered with the Olathe Junior Service League and American Field Service, and was actively involved with Habitat for Humanity for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands. Sherrie is survived by her children; her four grandchildren, Sydney and Seth Blanke, Caitlyn Ashton (Miles) and Bradley Rector; her brother, Lawson Barlow (Terri) of Smithville, MO; and niece Heather Barlow-Carson. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sherrie’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or Habitat for Humanity.
