William D. Brennan

<p><span style="font-size:20px;">Litchfield- William D. Brennan, 98, passed away Monday, October 19, 2020 at The Cottage at Litchfield Hills, Torrington. He was the beloved husband of the late Esther (Arsego) Brennan.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:20px;">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mr. Brennan was born in Litchfield on July 20, 1922, son of the late William J. and Margaret (Doyle) Brennan, and had been a lifelong Litchfield resident. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran and a member of Post 27 of the American Legion, where he had served as a past Commander. Bill was a retired supervisor with the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1977 with 36 years of service. He served as a former Tax Collector for the Town of Litchfield and had been a Realtor with E.J. Murphy Real Estate Company. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He had a great passion for sports, especially watching the Red Sox and UCONN girls. Bill was happy to have lived to see the Red Sox play in three World Series. &nbsp;Bill and Esther were loyal supporters of all local sports teams and Bill was a founding member of the Litchfield High School Hall of Fame.&nbsp; Bill will be remembered as a kind and thoughtful man who had a smile for all he met.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:20px;">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Hart and her husband, Harry, of Swanzy, NH, and Frances McGrath and her husband, Kevin, of Wakefield, RI; a son, James Brennan and his wife, Stephanie, of Morris; seven grandchildren, Meaghan Crupe and her husband, William, Patrick McGrath, Matthew Hart, Michaela Lundin and her husband, Todd, Brendan Hart and his wife, Heather, John Mooney, and Nicholas Brennan; nine great-grandchildren, Isabella, Caroline, and Charlotte Crupe, Maddison, Jack, and Riley Lundin, and Josephine, Theodore, and Winston Hart; and several nieces and nephews. &nbsp;He is also survived by his lifelong friend and brother-in-law, Edward Sepples of Norfolk.&nbsp; Mr. Brennan was predeceased by three sisters, Veronica Sullivan, Helen Rossi, and Katherine Sepples.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:20px;">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at Foothills VNA and The Cottage at Litchfield Hills, for the wonderful care shown to Bill.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:20px;">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Funeral services will be held Monday, October 26, 2020 at 9:30a.m. from Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect St., Torrington, to St. Anthony of Padua Church, 49 South St., Litchfield, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30a.m. Burial in St. Anthony of Padua Cemetery, Litchfield, will be held privately. Friends may call Sunday, October 25, 2020, from 3:00 to 5:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:20px;">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; </span><strong><span style="font-size:22px;">At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Litchfield Community Center, 421 Bantam Rd, Litchfield, CT 06759.</span></strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Bill Brennan.... a true gentleman. Lovely sense of humor, honest and loved. He was my husband’s right hand man through the post office years and Woody and I were fortunate to call him and Ester friends. The world is a poorer place without them.
