Monte Ray Stults Obituary

Monte R. Stults, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 82. Monte was born in Underwood, Washington, his family soon moved to Wasco, Oregon. He grew up with an older brother LeRoy and younger sister Luella. While growing up in Wasco, Monte enjoyed the farm life and going to the “big city” of The Dalles, Oregon. In his late teen years the family moved to Vancouver, Washington. While in high school, Monte was involved in the FFA program, raising many kinds of livestock. He graduated from Evergreen High School in 1957, Betty and their three children are also graduates of Evergreen High. He served 3 years in the United States Army with the Army Security Agency in Japan. While stationed in Japan, he hiked Mt. Fuji and enjoyed telling his family stories about his adventures overseas. Monte retired from Georgia Pacific Paper Mill in Camas Washington after working 43 years. On May 22, 1965, he married Betty L. Carlson the love of his life for 55 years. They raised three children, Ella, Brian and Margaret in Vancouver Washington in the home Monte built. Monte enjoyed volunteering as a leader for Boy Scouts and Black Powder Explorer Post for Troop 552. Many family vacations were spent volunteering at Boy Scout Camp work weekends. Monte had many hobbies and enjoyed many things: raising livestock, camping, dune buggies, model trains, gardening (especially growing tomatoes), building woodworking projects, decorating his home for the holidays, bluegrass and country music and old western movies. He and Betty enjoyed attending and participating in Black Powder Rendezvous. He was always willing to drop everything and help others when asked. I don’t know if this is officially a “hobby” but it seemed to be for Monte. Monte and Betty loved decorating their home inside and out for each holiday. They received the Neighborhood Star Award for decorating their home from the Image Neighborhood Association. Monte enjoyed seeing the smiles and joy that his Halloween haunted tunnels brought to children and families in the community. They were known to have 1,000+ trick-or-treaters each year. They were also well known for a yard full of holiday lights and inflatables Most of all Monte enjoyed spending time with his family. Whether it was camping, dune buggy riding, fishing, hiking, wood cutting, road trips to visit family and friends, watching his grandkids play sports, band concerts, taking them to the fair for free pancakes. He was always there to support and help his family. Whether it was his parents, in-laws, children and grandchildren. If you ever needed anything he most likely had it to borrow. Monte always had one more story to share, he loved to share stories and talk. Monte was laid to rest in his overalls and salt shaker, next to his parents at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on October 27th at noon. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Luella Mulkey. Monte is survived by his wife Betty, his three children, Ella Walsh (Bob), Brian Stults (Brenda) and Margaret Lutz (Tim), his 5 grandchildren, Kyle Stults, Nadia Lutz, Robert Walsh lV, Austin Lutz, Harley Walsh, and 3 great grandchildren, brother LeRoy Stults Next spring, in memory of Monte, grow a tomato plant and enjoy time with your family. “WHEN YOU WERE BORN, YOU CRIED AND THE WORLD REJOICED. LIVE YOUR LIFE SO THAT WHEN YOU DIE, THE WORLD CRIES AND YOU REJOICE.” (CHEROKEE INDIAN SAYING)
