<p><strong>Ellen Irene Heaton Speed, age 87, of Clayton, Georgia, passed away on October 19, 2020.</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Irene was born the daughter to the late Oscar Heaton and the late Sophie Lusk Heaton on August 21, 1933. In her professional life she worked in the textile industry. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved her family, church, prayer and reading scripture, and was a Godly woman and prayer warrior. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers and crocheting, and canning on her wood burning cook stove. She loved to care for others, and often was a caretaker to those who needed someone to be with them.</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Raleigh Speed; her brothers, Columbus Heaton, Lester Heaton, Elgin Heaton; her sisters, Hazel Strauss, Dolly Heaton, Ester Mulroney.</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Her survivors include her sons, Boyce Speed (Donna), of Tiger, Georgia, Boyd Speed, (Shannon), of Clayton, Georgia; two sisters, Virgie Nell Sims, of Salem, South Carolina,&nbsp; Beatrice Heaton, of Salem, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Shanda Hunnicutt (Rusty), Seth Speed (Katie Watson), Wendy Mullis (Travis); three great-grandchildren, Chaz Mullis, Maddie Mullis, Jared Mullis. A number of nieces and nephews also survive her.</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>A private family service will be held with burial to take place at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.</strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Irene&rsquo;s memory to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund 7245 Warwoman Rd.
