Lynds (Levy), Mary Bernice – Age 84, Truro. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mom, Mary B. Lynds on October 19, 2020 at home with family by her side. Born on Sober Island, NS, the eldest daughter of the late Stanford and Alice (Kenney) Levy. She is survived by daughters, Ruby Gammon (David), Sheet Harbour, Joan Lynds (Duncan Hamm), Beaver Bank, Lorna Martin (Douglas), Dartmouth; sons, Richard (Vivian), Westville, Leonard, Sheet Harbour Passage. Mary is also survived by her partner of 45 years, John Fitzgerald and his children, Christopher (Angela) and Savayda Jarone (Philip Darmus); several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Sadie Burgoyne, Port Dufferin and Hazel Berger, Quebec. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Lynds; brothers, Eric and Hughie Levy; two grandchildren and one great grandchild in infancy. Mary was Post-Mistress on Sober Island from 1961 – 1974. She also worked as a homecare worker, but her most notable title was “The Pickle Lady” for the many preserves that she supplied to Masstown Market over the years. She was a member of the Red Cross as well as a member of the St. Margaret’s Anglican Church Guild on Sober Island. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the doctors and nurses of the CEHHC Palliative Care Team. Family flowers only, please. Donations in Mary’s memory may be sent to CEHHC Palliative Care. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 25th from 1 - 4 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro.
