Over the last couple of years, if one asked Gordie Guy what he was up to, his stock reply was “I’m just waiting.” Gordie finally got to the front of the line.  Mr. Gordon William “Gordie” Guy passed away in Crystal City Manitoba on October 17th 2020 at age 81.
Gordie was preceded in death by his parents Les and Mildred Guy as well as his two brothers Gerald and Tom. He is survived by his extended family and his many friends.
Gordie was born in the back seat of a 1920 Pontiac on the road to Mather on the 26th of August 1939.  As a young man, Gordie worked as an underground driller in mines at Thompson, Manitoba and Red Lake, Ontario before settling down on the family farm near Clearwater.  His hearing was a casualty of that career.  After purchasing the family farm, Gordie was involved with grain and later cattle farming up to his retirement.  He was a passionate cattleman, always concerned for the wellbeing of his herd. In his retirement Gordie took on a supervisory position where he became highly skilled at supervising others in whatever they were doing.
Gordie was widely known for his sense of humour.  Everyone who knew him could tell his distinctive laugh a mile away.  He was a generous person who would always help out when someone was in need.
Gordie’s ashes will be interred in the Mather Cemetery at a later date.  The family would like to thank the staff of the Rock Lake Hospital for their tireless efforts to take care of Gordie and make his final days comfortable.  In lieu of flowers please send donations in Gordie’s name to the Rock Lake Health District Foundation and Prairie View Lodge Foundation.
