Dominick J Malandrucco Obituary

Dominick was born in New York City on March 10, 1949 to a veteran of the Second World War and his wife. He grew up in Astoria, Queens around his parents’ delicatessen and his Uncle Joe’s fruit and vegetable store, where he worked as a teenager. He fondly remembered coming of age in New York City and was always willing to share stories about hearing doo-wop groups harmonizing on the city street below his apartment, playing stickball, riding the subway as a child, and enjoying family gatherings with aunts, uncles and cousins amid feasts of Italian food. He often spoke of his teenage years hanging out with friends and his Cousin Bill, bowling for Mater Christi’s high school team, and watching baseball—first at Yankee Stadium as a child, and then at Shea Stadium after the Mets moved to Queens. As a 17-year-old, he met the love of his life, Theresa, while she was walking her family dog. They married in September 1970 and would remain together for the next 50 years, including 40 years in Hillsborough, New Jersey, in a home he always loved and pledged to never leave. The first in his family to attend college, Dominick graduated from Hofstra University and pursued a career in the footwear industry. He quickly worked his way up from the sales floor to the corporate office. Later, he was a buyer and designer for footwear companies, a career that provided him the opportunity to travel the world, including more than 50 trips to nations including South Korea, China, Indonesia, and Thailand, among others. Beyond his many accomplishments, Dominick found his greatest joy as a father of three and a grandfather of seven. He was a coach for the Hillsborough Raiders youth soccer and Little League baseball teams and always enjoyed bowling and playing sports for fun with his children. A loving father, Dominick always put his children first so that they might find success and happiness. As a grandfather, he wholly adored his grandchildren and was their biggest fan, always cheering for them at their athletic competitions and recitals. He was predeceased by his parents Dominick and Anna Malandrucco and his sister Adele Roberts. Surviving are his wife Theresa, his three children and their spouses, Michael and Kathleen Malandrucco, Gina and Scott Lutzky, Greg and Nisha and his grandchildren Mackenzie, Grace, Tyler, Todd, Kyle, Maddie and Leo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Thursday, October 22, 2020, in the Mary Mother of God Church, 157 S. Triangle Rd., Hillsborough, NJ 08844. Burial will follow at Neshanic Cemetery, Hillsborough, NJ 08844. Visiting for relatives and friends will be held from 4 - 6pm on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, in the Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796 Us Hwy 206, Hillsborough, NJ 08844.
