Juanita Elois Lyons Johnson was born in Edgecombe County North Carolina to Hilda Lyons on September 14, 1944 and was raised in Bethel North Carolina. She graduated from Bethel Union High School in May of 1961.  She studied at North Carolina Central University at Durham North Carolina for 2 years before enlisting in the United States Air Force where she served as an Office Administrator. She was honorably discharged from March Air Force Base in Riverside California at the rank of Airman First Class in June of 1964. She was later hired by the United States Federal Government where she initially served in the commissary as a cashier, eventually advancing into the Logistics field where she ultimately retired from Camp Mabry in Austin Texas in 2006.

She spent her retirement serving her community for over two decades with Meals On Wheels, delivering meals to the elderly. We often laughed about the irony of the situation: The Elderly delivering meals to the Elderly. It was amazing how she went above and beyond when serving her recipients. If she noticed something she could do to help the seniors, she would do it. She had a relationship with everyone on her route.

She also loved to bowl, spending over 50 years bowling with family and friends.  She had participated in several bowling leagues over the years and was actively bowling up to the time of her passing.

She was a member of Agape Christian Ministries for several years and served on the Administrative Team and on the Meals for Moms Team at the church.  For the last 2 years, she attended Impact Family Church in South Austin.

Juanita had a genuine smile, an outgoing personality, and a laugh that filled the room. Whether she knew you for 5 minutes or for years, you parted as her friend. She acquired a large extended family by taking people under her wing; among them, her godson Eric and his wife Joy, goddaughter Martha, god granddaughter Jessycah, and god great-granddaughter Sencere.

Juanita was preceded in death by her mother Hilda Lyons, her husband Douglass T. Johnson and 1 cat named Sealy. She is survived by daughter Sonya M. Edwards and her husband Johnny Edwards Jr., daughter Tracy Y. Cordon, granddaughter Chelsea R. Franklin and her dog Lexie, granddaughter Bria J. Finch and her husband Matthew A. Finch, great-grandson Gabriel E. Finch, godson Eric C. Warner and his wife Joy R. Warner, goddaughter Martha A. Whitted, 1 cat named Trio and 1 dog named Henry, aunt Elease Lyons, cousin Margaret Highsmith Witherspoon (Peggy), cousin Derek Lyons, cousin Vincent Lyons, cousin Brenda Lyons, cousin Sheila Stringer, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Reception to be held after the service at Impact Family Church 2909 W. William Cannon Dr. Austin, Tx 78745.
