Janice R. Miller Obituary

Janice Miller, 80, Casselton, ND died on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Sanford Health on Broadway in Fargo, ND.

Janice (Benesh) Miller, the youngest of nine children, was born to John and Clara Benesh in Ada, MN on October 3, 1940. After graduation from Ada High School in 1958, she moved to Fargo to attend Interstate Business College. After graduating there, she accepted a position with Fargo’s Merchants National Bank and Trust where she worked for several years.

On May 26, 1962, Janice married Robert Miller of Casselton who was attending NDSU. In addition to her duties at Merchants Bank, she helped Bob manage, in turn, Dakota Hall and Reed Hall on the NDSU campus until his graduation.

In mid-1963, Bob accepted a commission in the US Air Force and together they moved to Reese Air Force Pilot Training Base in Lubbock, Texas. On arrival at Lubbock, she promptly accepted a position with Monroe Business Machines and remained there until the birth of their son, Scott in November of 1964.

Shortly thereafter the family was transferred to Travis Air Force Base in California where on June 6, 1967 a second son, Dain was born. The family remained at Travis until Bob was given an assignment to Vietnam in 1968.

Janice and the boys then moved to Casselton. When it became obvious that Casselton was to be the family’s ultimate home, Janice started what was to be a 35 year career in banking. She also became deeply involved in numerous community volunteer activities. She maintained books for the ambulance service, the airport, the economic development committee, Summerfest and many more volunteer organizations.

She had a passion for recreational activities such as bowling, golf, ceramics, quilting, worldwide travel and etc.

In retirement Janice was actively engaged in a real estate venture called Milstar Properties while she also built a winter home in Peachtree City, Georgia.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Janice is survived by her husband, Robert; two sons, Scott of Peachtree City, GA and Dain (Jenny) of West Fargo; three grandchildren, Gabrielle, Harrison and Jaxson Miller; two brothers, Marvin and Clifford Benesh; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Eleanor DeVries, Lorraine Slininger, Doris Melby, Arnold Benesh, Glen Benesh and Kenny Benesh.
