Edward Fuentes "Fast Eddie" Contreras age 73 of San Angelo, Texas died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on October 18, 2020.

Public viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Robert Massie Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. 

He was born in San Angelo on September 11, 1947 to his parents Macario and Beatrice Contreras.  He attended Rio Vista and played football at Central.  He met and married Christina on March 28, 1967 and they moved to California.  Before his entry into entertainment and radio he had a landscaping company in Southern California.

When the family returned to San Angelo, he worked at KSJT Radio and he went on to build the radio station KYZZ 100.1 FM and brought many Tejano Musicians to the area. He was the vice president and co-owner of the station from 1996 until 2001 when the station sold to Foster Communications.  DJ’ing as well. 

Eddie was responsible for building the tower that brought Tejano Music to San Angelo and the surrounding areas, which is located on Bryant across from the KC Hall, to house the transmitter for the radio station.

He was a talented DJ, entertaining thousands in San Angelo and surrounding areas.  He was known by starting his show by acknowledging his parents and ending his show by reciting the Serenity Prayer for all his listeners. Eddie was known by many names, “Fast Eddie”, “Lalo” and “Q-Vo” being just a few.

Eddie was a multifaceted individual, who loved to fish and camp with his family. He loved the Cowboys; they were his team win or lose.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by three sisters, Carolina Biera, Asucena Rodriguez, and Jesusita Espinoza.

He is loving survived by his partner-in life and best friend, Christina and their children, Michael “Jammike” Contreras, Amy Flores and her husband, Tony, Breana Bara and Breana Bara; and by his brother Arturo Contreras and his wife Elena; his grandchildren, Juanita Leeanne, Michael, Christina, Andrew, Zane, Tiera, Arianna, Ayvah and Brooklyn; by nine great grandchildren; and a many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
