Laurence Frank Larson

After 92 year of living life to the fullest, Laurence F. Larson, of Big Timber, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2020. Laurence Frank Larson was born on August 9, 1928 to Lewis & Elsie Larson, joining older sister Evelyn to complete their family. Laurence had many stories of growing up and attending the Glasston School and spending time with his uncles on the family homestead. In 1952, he married Marjorie Burmeister and they began their life together on the ranch at Wheeler Creek. Life was full of haying, shipping cattle, shearing sheep and raising their 5 children. Laurence retired from the ranch in 1992 and moved just west of town. He kept his bale wagon and looked forward to stacking hay for folks around the county every summer for many years. Laurence was always up to taking a ride and sharing stories from his younger days. It was common to go for a ride and end up traveling over a hundred miles, stopping for a burger and milkshake along the way. He knew Sweet Grass County like the back of his hand and was a very proud life-long resident. Family was very important to Laurence. He was extremely proud of all his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. He loved family gatherings, playing cards (if he was winning), being the family Sunday morning breakfast short order cook while listening to Lonny Bell’s Classic Country on KGHL and, again, telling stories. Laurence is preceded in death by his parents, sister, and wife, Marge. He is survived by his children, Carol (Larry), Linda (Mark), Floyd (Monica), Lloyd (Kelly), Mary (Steve), his 8 grandchildren and 4 great-granddaughters and his beloved barn cat Tom. No less important to him were all his extended family of in-laws, nieces and nephews. While we will all miss him dearly, we know now that he is at peace and pain-free. He fought the cancer that overtook his body with grace and dignity. Memorials may be sent to Hearts & Hands Hospice or Sweet Grass Cancer Alliance. A celebration of his life will be planned at a later date.
