Leon D. Smiens

Leon D. Smiens, 80, of Washington, formerly of Chaska, MN, passed away at 12:38am Saturday, October 17, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Leon was born August 18, 1940 in Luverne, MN to the late Arthur and Dorothy Vogt Smiens. On October 18, 1958, he married Sharon Rooney; she preceded him in death September 23, 2016. Surviving are his children, Debbie (John) Pfister of Creve Coeur, Rhonda (Bryant) Kennel of Washington, and Jeff (Therese) Smiens of Northfield, MN; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Long. Leon worked as a chemist for several companies in Minnesota and enjoyed working for Scott County, MN in his retirement. He enjoyed golf, basketball and football, and especially enjoyed watching his favorite teams, the Vikings and Twins. He cherished time spent with his family and loved them dearly. Private family services will be held and inurnment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Metamora.
