Dennis Sailer Obituary

Dennis Daryl Sailer, age 77, died on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. 

Dennis was born on August 3, 1943 in Beulah, ND to Clarence and Rose (Becker) Sailer.  He was raised on a farm northeast of Hazen, ND.  Following high school, Dennis attended and graduated from Dickinson State University where he earned his Bachelors of Music degree.

Dennis was united in marriage with Sandra Lee Morrison on September 3, 1965 in Robinson, ND.  Dennis then began teaching music in schools first for two years in Hazelton, ND then for five years in Scranton, ND.  In 1972, Dennis began his 32-year career as a heavy equipment operator in the coal industry with Knife River Coal, now Dakota Westmorland.  Dennis retired in 2004 and made his home in Beulah, ND until moving to Sioux Falls, SD in 2015.  Dennis was a member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.

Dennis was a gifted musician and played the accordion and drums in several bands.  He enjoyed John Deere tractors, watching western movies and reading.  Above all, Dennis loved spending time with his family and friends.  Dennis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Sandra of Sioux Falls, SD; one son, Brian Sailer and his wife, Michelle of Moorhead, MN; one daughter, Julie Leiseth and her husband, Justin of Crooks, SD; five grandchildren, Mikayla Sailer, Ethan Sailer, Evan Sailer, Jacob Leiseth and Joshua Leiseth; one brother, Douglas Sailer and his wife, Sally of Mandan, ND; and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Rose Sailer; and two infant sisters.
