Marvel "Mert" Pick

Marvel “Mert” Marie Pick, 91, of Remsen, Iowa passed away on Monday, Oct. 19, 2020 at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Father William McCarthy officiating.  Masks will be required and social distancing restrictions will be followed in the church.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, IA.  Visitation with the family present, keeping to social distancing restrictions will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.  Visitation will resume 1 hour before the service on Tueday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online and the funeral can be viewed after at www.fischfh.com.  Mert was born June 17, 1929, to John & Mary (Berding) Krogman at her home in Fredonia township Plymouth County, IA. She was raised and educated in the Plymouth County area, attending school at Remsen St. Mary’s. On Nov. 29, 1945 she married Vernon Nacke at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen.  Vernon passed away in 1961. On May 28, 1963 she married Alfred Pick at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen.  Mert was a custodian at Mid Sioux Opportunity for 8 years.  She also worked at Ruth’s Café, Remsen Golf Course kitchen and Mrs. B’s convenience store.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Mert was involved in many organizations; Lady’s VFW Auxilliary, St. Mary’s Mission Association, Catholic Daughters of America, Christian Mothers, Happy Siesta Auxilliary, Oscar Cash Program and many other volunteer activities.  Mert enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, helping others and doing things with her grandchildren. Survivors include her four children, Mary Kay Thiel of Remsen, Francis Nacke (Dawn Kuchel) of Remsen, Diane (Jack) Jacobs of Clarinda, IA, Mark (Marjean) Nacke of Remsen; 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; her sister, Lorna Majeres of Remsen; many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Vernon Nacke and Alfred Pick, her son Dale Nacke, brothers, Ambrose, Milo and a sister Germain, son-in-law, Robert Thiel, grand-daughter, Grace Nacke, many brothers and sisters-in-law. Casket bearers will be, Bob Thiel, Brandon Thiel, Steve Jacobs, Brian Jacobs, Amy Penning and Carrie Weiler
