Earl J. LaVan, 75, of Hartley, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa.<br><br>Private family services will be held at Trinity United Church of Christ, 140 N 5th Ave E, Hartley, IA 51346.<br><br>Earl Joseph LaVan, the son of Harry and Lillian (Sanders) LaVan, was born on July 6, 1945 in Rochester, Minnesota. He married Linda Borgschatz in 1967. Earl enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from 1965 to 1969. He earned three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star for his bravery and courage.<br><br>Earl worked several jobs to support his family including as a truck driver. He enjoyed being with his family, attending piano recitals and sports for his grandchildren, fishing, camping, playing cards, woodworking and gardening.<br><br>He is survived by his wife, Linda LaVan; his children, Vince LaVan, Justin LaVan, and Holly Berends; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.<br><br>Earl was preceded in death by his daughter Annie, his parents, Harry and Lillian (Sanders) LaVan, a sister, Shirley and a brother, Nick LaVan.<br>

Earl J. LaVan, 75, of Hartley, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa.

Earl Joseph LaVan, the son of Harry and Lillian (Sanders) LaVan, was born on July 6, 1945 in Rochester, Minnesota. He married Linda Borgschatz in 1967.
