Terry W. Lanning Obituary

Terry W. Lanning, 70, of Coffeyville passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at his home. He was born on July 27, 1950 at Eureka, Kansas to Eugene and Hazel (VanBuskirk) Lanning. Terry grew up and attended school in Howard, Kansas graduating from Howard High School in 1968. In 1969 he joined the U.S. Navy serving during the Vietnam War. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1974 he returned to Elk County. On July 27, 1974 he was united in marriage to Rita Floyd at Moline, Kansas. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville and raised their three children. Terry worked in the molding department at Jencast for 39 years retiring in 2012. Terry enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and was an avid baseball fan. For several years Terry coached Little League baseball and later American Legion baseball. He loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren playing ball games. Survivors include his wife, Rita Lanning of the home; his children, Eric Lanning and wife, Dawn, Tera Lanning, and Daniel Lanning all of Coffeyville; his grandchildren, Dalton Lanning of Orlando, Florida, and Sydnie Lanning of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; his siblings, Larry Lanning, Mary Wade and husband Roy, and Kathy Fouts and husband, Sam; his brothers-in-law and sisters-inlaw, Gary (Marsha) Floyd, Larry (Rosemary) Floyd, Bob (Donna) Floyd), Rodger (Connie) Floyd, Janice (Rick) Lanning and Harold (Brenda) Floyd. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Hazel Lanning; siblings, Bill and Paula Lanning, Tom Lanning, Wanda Clark, Phyllis and Melvin Friend, and Wuanita Floyd. Following Terry's wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be announced at a later date. The family suggests memorials to the Coffeyville Recreation Commission Youth Baseball program; contributions may be left or mailed in care of David W.
