James Ayers Mitchell, “Jimmy”, 73,  passed away, Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Sampson Regional Medical Center.

A funeral will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, October 20th at Elizabeth Baptist Church with Rev. John Hobbs and Rev. Johnathan Lewis officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow in the Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 PM – 8 PM, Monday, October 19, 2020 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his brother, Marvin, at 500 Beaverdam Drive, Clinton, NC.

Jimmy, born in 1947 in Sampson County, was the son of the late Frank Darnell Mitchell and Lillian Hollingsworth Mitchell.  He was a Quality Control Inspector with Hamilton Beach.  Jimmy was an avid Wake Forest Demon Deacon and Boston Red Sox Fan and loved golfing with his many friends.  He was a Veteran of the US Airforce.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Janice Coats, William Edward “Billy” Mitchell, Joyce Mitchell Mason and Harold Franklin Mitchell.

Survivors include his brother, Marvin Mitchell (Janet), several nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law’s, Esther Lee Mitchell, Cathy Mitchell Moore and dear cousin, Jeanette Miller Goodman.
