James "Jim" Allan Minner Obituary

James “Jim” Allan Minner, 72 years of age of Blue Eye, Missouri, passed away on October 17, 2020. He was born on December 10, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to Olive Louise (Nienstedt) and Robert O. Minner. Jim attended Popular Bluff High School in Popular Bluff, Missouri, then went on to graduate from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He married Kay Lorraine Poppenhagen on August 4, 1973. To this union, two children were born: Kimberly Kay (Minner) Stewart and James Jay Minner. Jim was a teacher and coached football, baseball, wrestling, and track throughout Missouri, including Raytown South, East Prairie, Scott City, and Stockton. He then went into school administration and was a high school principal at Fair Play, Salem, West Plains, Marble Hill, and then retired from service in the public school system at his last principalship at Blue Eye High School, in Blue Eye, Missouri. While in school administration, Jim was a member of the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals and the MSHSAA State Games Committee. He loved the outdoors with interests specifically in fishing, hunting, and camping. Jim continued to educate others as part of the Missouri Conservation and Hunter’s Education program. He was also involved with Ducks Unlimited, Quail Unlimited, and a camping club. Jim was a Master of the Grill and Waffle Iron as well. Jim was an active member of the Closer Walk Christian Church in Ridgedale, Missouri. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and Missouri National Guard. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kay; children: daughter, Kimberly and her husband, Matthew C. Stewart, and son, Jay and his wife, Heather Minner; grandchildren: Olivia L. Stewart, Eva Kay Stewart, and Lincoln C. Stewart; brother: Robert N. Minner and sister-n-law: De Minner. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Louise Minner. Jim was a lifelong educator and coach, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be missed dearly by his family, and those he influenced and enriched their lives throughout his education and coaching career. Visitation will be held 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, 2001 West Walnut Lawn Street, Springfield, Missouri. Funeral services will follow at 5:00 PM with Pastor William Durrant officiating. Jim will be laid to rest on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at 1:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Funeral services will be livestreamed on the Walnut Lawn Funeral Home Facebook page: www.facebook.com/walnutlawnfuneralhome. Masks are required to be worn while attending visitation and funeral services, as well as social distancing to be maintained as much as possible.
