It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, BERNARDITA (BERNIE) CORDOVA, 89, a lifelong resident of El Guache who went to be with our Lord on October 13, 2020.  She joins her parents Guzman and Tonita (Montoya) Vigil who long preceded her. She was also preceded by her brothers, Benito, Mike, Roberto and Harold Vigil; sisters, Flora Chavez, Frances Holt, Christina Vigil and Sylvia Salazar.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother who spent her life in service to her community, her family and to anyone in need.  She was employed at LANL for 30 years, then helped her husband with farmers markets in Espanola, Santa Fe and Los Alamos for 24 years. At the farmers markets she made many lifelong friends. She adopted many elderly people, helped with the food kitchen, and worked tirelessly for her Catholic Churches of San Jose and San Antonio. Bernie is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jose Rudy Cordova; sons, Jerry and Tomas Cordova; adopted daughter, Vivian and husband Gary Laabs; sisters, Matilde and husband Elmer Romero of Sombrillo, Amada Schultz of Belen, and Lilly Martinez of Arroyo Seco; brother, David Vigil of El Guache;  sisters-in-law, Virgina Vigil, and Lorraine and Teresa Vigil all of El Guache; grandchildren, Lewis and wife Desiree, Joseph and wife Joslyn, Christella Cordova,  Kathryn and husband Kenneth Hernandez, Carolyn and husband Daniel Sandoval and Lisa Gurule; great-grandchildren, Kenzie Cordova, Alexus and Jordan Hernandez, Mathew, Samantha and Kasey Sandoval, and many nieces, nephews, Godchildren and friends. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Española. Burial to follow at the San Jose Catholic Cemetery in Hernandez.  Honorary pallbearers are all her Godchildren and grandchildren. Due to COVID-19 restrictions only immediate family members are invited to attend these services. Everyone is reminded that wearing masks and social distancing are required. The family wishes to thank Bernie’s caregivers, nurses, hospice team and family members who provided great loving care in attending to her needs.
