Margaret (Maggie) Catherine Trehearne Obituary

Maggie was born November 14, 1925 to Donald and Jessie MacKay in Vancouver, British Columbia.  All her youth was in the city, where she completed high school & and went on to achieve a Bachelor of Agriculture degree at UBC. She did some teaching in this field sometimes as far away as Dawson Creek, and others in Vancouver.

During one of these courses Maggie met her future husband H.R.(Dick) Trehearne, and they were married November 18,1949. They moved to Dick's ranch in Princeton, British Columbia, and built a life together. Must have been quite a learning curve for a city girl to get used to no phone, no electricity, sketchy road maintenance and  learning how to bake bread with a wood stove. She never complained but did mention that she had to wear mitts in the winter in the house to set the breakfast table. They raised two children on the ranch, Ian Trehearne (Jan) & Cathy Sendecki (Steve). They sold the ranch in the early 1980s and moved to Birch lake, and Dick worked as an electrician for many years.

Maggie was also an accomplished musician, who could both read music  and play by ear. She played piano since childhood, and later taught herself the accordion. Maggie was always ready play music with a group of friends. She also learned Highland Dancing in her youth and was a drummer in a pipe band. In her later years, Maggie did volunteer work at the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store and  spent many hours visiting with her many friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Dick in the Spring of 2009, just a few months short of their 60th anniversary, and by son-in law Steve Sendecki. She is survived by children Cathy and Ian; daughter-in law Jan; grandchildren Nicole, Bryan, and Sherry, and numerous great-grand children. More recently, she became Granny to Steve’s younger family members.
