Ronald Lane Helms Obituary

Ronald "Ronnie" Lane Helms, 67, of 839 S. Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC, fell asleep in the arms of Jesus, Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House. He was born May 27, 1953, in Charlotte, NC, to the late Charles Hubert Helms and Bessie Dennis-Helms. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Robert M. Helms, Roy Helms, Hugh Helms, and Brenda Helms-Petrea.

As a child Ronnie was raised in Hopewell Baptist Church in Union County, NC. While in high school Ronnie met the love of his life, Vicki; they were married on June 19, 1971, and to this union were born two children. 

Ronnie was a people person. He serviced his community as Volunteer Firefighter for 13 years of which 3 of those years he was the fire chief. He was an entrepreneur of his own company, R.L. Painting Company, for 28 years.

In 1983, Ronnie really got to know Jesus while talking to a farmer in his barn, Harold Clontz. Ronnie's life changed forever that day and he never looked back. In 1985, Ronnie joIned First Baptist Church, Indian Trail, NC, where he served as deacon, and Sunday School teacher, until he was called into the ministry. He served as a volunteer for Compassion Ministries in 1990; a ministry that focused on the homeless, unwed mothers, and drug addictions. In 1999, he was called to pastor, Freedom Baptist Church, in Polkton, NC; there he served 5 years. In 2005, Ronnie became the pastor of Roddey Baptist Church, in Catawba, SC, where he served faithfully for 12 years. Ronnie became a member/associate pastor at Antioch Church in Lancaster, SC for a short period of time, until God called him to pastor College Park Baptist Church, Rock Hill, SC in 2018.

Ronnie is survived by the love of his life, of 49 years, VICKI, one daughter, CHRISTLE L. HELMS of Charlotte, NC; one son, CHARLES (JASON) HELMS, of Rock Hill, SC; Three grandchildren, Noshan Helms, Kyce Cockran and Gary Olsen of Cascade, CO. Two furry babies "Snickers and Ramsey." A host of nieces and nephews, CHURCH FAMILY, AND MANY FRIENDS.
