Pat Davison

Patricia Louise Bubke Davison Pat Davison died Thursday afternoon, October 15, 2020, at MercyOne Hospice, Johnston, Iowa, from complications of inflammatory breast cancer. She was 69 years old. Pat was born in Ida Grove, Iowa, on May 29, 1951, to H. Elaine Teghtmeyer Bubke and Dwaine K. “Pete” Bubke. She was followed by another sister and four brothers. Her family initially lived on a farm near Ida Grove, later moving to another farm near Schaller, Iowa. Her faith was confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schaller, on April 11, 1965. Her confirmation verse was John 8:31, 32, “If ye continue in My Word, then are ye My disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Pat graduated in May 1969 from Schaller High School as salutatorian. She attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, graduating in May 1973 with a BA in Accounting. Following graduation, Pat joined Polk County Federal Savings and Loan in Des Moines as an accountant, working there until 1985. In 1988, Pat began a career of 30 years as an accountant with Hirsh Industries, a manufacturer of filing cabinets and other storage products. In retirement, Pat volunteered at Mount Olive Lutheran School, helping children with their assignments, and especially playing games with them. One of her students wrote, “Thank you for all the ways you’ve served and helped us.” Another expressed her feelings, “I hope you are brave as you’re battling cancer. Thanks for serving us.” Pat married George Davison, Jr. on October 16, 1977, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Des Moines. One son, Dwaine, died shortly after birth on October 25, 1983. Pat and George later adopted two children: Erin Louise and Derick George. The children and grandchildren were Pat’s special pride and joy. She was at their soccer matches, football games, dance recitals and band concerts. Arrangements were made by Pat for horseback riding lessons and computer training. A remarkable cook, Pat followed the recipes to the letter. She cherished honesty, telling George, the children and grandchildren, “If there is one thing that makes me mad, it is if you lie to me, and I can tell if you are.” Pat’s smile and laugh were infectious. Pat was an active member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, which she joined in 1973. She served as treasurer, member of the finance committee, and on the school board. She also served as treasurer and a member of the board of directors of Agape Pregnancy Center in Des Moines. Pat is survived by her husband, George; daughter Erin, son-in-law Nathaniel Mumm, and grandsons Sean and Eli Mumm, as well as son Derick, daughter-in-law Brandi, granddaughter Alice and grandson Gage Davison.
