Francena Baker Obituary

JONESBORO – FRANCENA ELIZABETH (GOVE) BAKER, 79, died October 10, 2020 at Marshall Healthcare in Machias. She was born October 31, 1940, in Calais. She attended Woodland High School and completed the LPN program at WCCC. She learned to drive a dump truck at an early age and would help her dad Daniel when an extra driver was needed. Or if she wanted to go somewhere as a teenager and no car was available, she had been known to arrive in a dump truck to visit friends. She worked as a telephone operator for Ma Bell and was co-owner of the “The Seaman’s Den” restaurant in Machias. Once her children were teenagers, she began her employment at Down East Community Hospital as a CNA and once she completed nursing school, as a nurse on MedSurg, from which she retired in 2003. She loved country music whether it be going to concerts, listening to the radio or a favorite recording. She enjoyed carpentry and spent many an hour building onto and renovating her home. It was a standing family joke that every time Ted said the word “boat” she would build a deck or renovate a room. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, be it large family gatherings or a brief visit, regardless the occasion. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Theodore W. Baker (Ted) in 2010 and her parents Daniel and Eileen Look. She is survived by four children, Robert E. Baker Sr. and his wife, Nadine, of Jonesboro, Tonja Alley and her husband, Albert, of Jonesboro, Daniel Baker and his wife, Lisa, of Orrington, and Michael Baker of Dothan, Alabama.Grandchildren, Nicole Strout and her husband Clifford of Jonesboro, Robert Baker Jr. and partner Crystal of Jonesboro, Albert Alley Jr of Gaston, South Carolina, Whitney Crowley and husband Joshua of Jonesboro, Eileen Simpson and husband Christopher of East Machias, Michael Baker and wife Esma of Cape Cod, Massachusetts , Kyle Baker and wife Nicole of Bangor, William (Billy) Baker and wife Heather of Lubec , Dylan Baker and fiancé Becca of Hampden, and Kristen Baker and fiancé Casey Cotton of Bangor, Dalton Glass and Mahayla Baker of Dothan Alabama; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Liam Theodore, Callie, Macie, Zachary, Hayden Joseph, Gabriella, Georgia, Bradaen, Bella, Isabella, Liam Robert, Sophie, Hayden Daniel, Lucy and Willow;special lifelong friend Nancy Drugge and a special cousin Margot Mulholland.
